Planning the assignment ahead of time will help you to stay focused and be on track. The first thing that you need to do is to check the percentage of marks allotted to an assignment and decide accordingly the time you will spend on it. You also need to think of how points will be assigned for each part of the assignment. If the details of that are not mentioned, try making a rough estimate yourself. Break up the tasks into steps and set your own deadline for completing each task.

Analyzing the question

Read the question carefully to understand what it means before you think that now I will write my assignment. To frame a proper answer, you need to understand what the question demands from you. Try to look for words that instruct you about what you need to do like contrast, compare, analyze, and so on. Look for the words that restrict you about the limits of the topic and help to make it more specific. You can take help from the course pages regarding the question analysis.

Drafting the outline

Drafting the outline gives you the structure that you need to follow when proceeding with writing your assignment. The kind of assignment that you are carrying out will entail a broad structure that you need to adhere. You also need to check the marking schedule and question before forming the structure. This will help you in understanding how the teacher expects the structure of the topic to be and what should be included. The general structure to be followed is that the introduction and conclusion of the assignment should take up ten percent each while the rest should be the discussion.

Searching the information

You need to research to find relevant information before you start writing the assignment. Some of the help you will find in your recommended readings and course material, but for the rest of it, you will have to scour a bit. Online is the best source for finding valuable information, but you need to very cautious of the fact that the information you collected is authentic. Additionally, you can also take help from the local library or ask your teacher for some suggestions.

Starting writing the assignment

Once you are done collecting all the information, bring it all together and start writing your assignment. Start with your first draft and write freely without considering the word count or other minor mistakes. You can begin with the conclusion as that is generally the easiest to write and it gives direction to your writing. The introduction is usually the hardest to write, and you can leave it until the last. After you are done writing the draft, start with the final copy. In the final text, correct the mistakes of the draft and fine-tune your writing by editing all the unnecessary points.

The final step of the process is editing and proofreading the assignment. Try not to do this right after you have finished writing the assignment as your brain will be way too fatigued by that time to spot any mistakes. Give yourself a break and come back to check the assignment with a fresh mind. Regarding proofreading, it is better to rely on yourself rather than any spelling or grammar software as they do not pick up all the mistakes.
