Boot issue: If your system is facing boot issue as it can’t boot using external media or an optical drive, you may need to perform a clean install of OS X or boot from an installation stored on an external hard drive. To deal with it, reboot or power on the system while pressing and holding down the option key. It will halt the boot process and bring up the menu selection list that includes all bootable devices connected to the system. Highlight the desired device and press the enter key to redirect the boot process to that device.

Now select that value first that the user account resides on, followed by the name from the drop-down menu of the user account you want to reset. Enter the new password in the both fields, reconfirm it and click on the Save button to apply the changes. Restart the system and enter a new password to test the changes.

Apps downloaded from the Internet won’t run: Your Mac system usually doesn’t allow and block the apps downloaded from unknown source or developer. This is done keeping your system security in mind. If you still want to open any app download from other than App store or identified developer, then you can do this with certain tweaks. To do this, go to Security & Privacy > General and click “Open Anyway” option next to the app name that is blocked. Now look for the “Allow apps downloaded from” field and select “Anywhere”. If the option appears to be grayed out, click on the lock icon (bottom of the pane) and unlock the option with the admin password.
Reset SMC: If your Mac isn’t working well you may need to reset the System Management Controller (SMC). To do this follow these steps.
Macs with non-removable battery: Shutdown Mac > Connect the power adapter to the Mac > press and hold down Shift + control + Option keys and Power button simultaneously. Now release all keys at the same time. A little light on the MagSafe adapter may change colors briefly to indicate that the SMC has been reset. Boot your system for the changes to take place.
Macs with removable battery: Shutdown the Mac> disconnect the power adapter and hold the Power key for 10 seconds. Now release Power key and reconnect battery and power adapter. Turn on Mac as usual to see changes.
Desktop Mac: Shutdown the Mac > disconnect the power cord > press and hold the power button for 5 seconds > release the power button > reattach the power cables and boot the Mac as usual.
